III)Current and futures applications
With the increase in the outputs of the thermogénérateurs, the applications were done increasingly many.
For general public one can find a watch, manufactured by citizen, which uses the wrist as hot source and the ambient air like cold source. It avoids the use of battery.
Thermoelectricity is also utilile for the places not served by electricity. Thus Serras technology developped the LUFO, an oil lamp coupled to a hundred thermocouples which deliver a tension exploited by a radio.
Another application under development is the adaptation of thermoelectric cells on the exhaust pipes of cars. The generated power is sufficient to feed the electric circuit of the car and avoid the presence of an mecanic alternator (mechanical wear, additional work to provide).
The thermo-generation is also indispendable in certain technologically advanced sectors as space. Generators RTG (Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator) function thanks to radioactive materials which constitutes the hot source and the space which constitutes the cold source.
It is this kind of technology which equips the space probe Cassini in electricity and which has to feed the future projects of Martian exploration. It is also present on the probes having to approach the sun because the cells photovoltaic cannot be used under these conditions.
